What is Chiffon?

Its name comes from the fine and mostly transparent chiffon fabric, originally from Arabic: “šiff” means transparent fabric.

This is one of the finest and lightest fabrics, which is predominantly transparent. Chiffon is made using plain weave, also known as cloth or taffeta weave.

The warp and weft threads are tightly interwoven, so that the warp threads alternate above and below the weft threads. This technique makes the top and bottom look identical.
In the 18th century, silk chiffon was a sign of wealth in Europe.
